Ingredients
- 1 lb 90% lean ground beef
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Topping:
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp light brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, gently combine 1 lb 90% lean ground beef, 1 cup bread crumbs, 1/2 cup diced onion, 1/2 cup milk, 1 large egg, 2 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp dried parsley, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Mix just until everything is well incorporated; avoid overmixing.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a standard loaf pan. Gently pat the meat down to create an even layer.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup ketchup and 2 Tbsp light brown sugar for the topping.
- Pour the ketchup-brown sugar mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf, spreading it to the edges.
- Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 55 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest in the loaf pan for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing and serving. This resting time helps the flavors meld and allows the meatloaf to hold its shape better.
